DESCRIPTION:Metro Parent hosts its 23rd annual Education Expo on Sunday\, September 30\, 2018\, at the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills. The event takes place from noon until 3:30 p.m. Discover the best local schools and boarding schools\, enrichment\, tutoring and extracurricular programs\, financial planners\, children’s health and safety experts\, children’s advocacy groups and much more! \nNew this year: EdTalks\, a series of discussions on subjects from homework to the balance between extracurricular activities and academics. EdTalks will also feature a panel discussion about the state of education in Michigan. There also will be a Town Hall meeting facilitated by the Center for Michigan\, a “think-and-do tank” that aims to educate\, engage and inform Michigan residents about policy and issues statewide\, including education. \nAttendance is free and will include box lunches\, courtesy of Nino Salvaggio\, for the first 1000 pre-registered guests. Lunches will not be available to walk-ins or to those who do not reserve them in advance. \nPre-Registered families who attend also will be entered to win great prizes: a Cranbrook Science Membership\, gift cards and more!

DESCRIPTION:Join the movement to empower Detroit youth (ages 11+)\, and the community at large by starting with yourself. \nDHACK is back and you’re invited! \nFor our first challenge\, we are partnering with CSforALL\, a national non-profit dedicated to making Computer Science accessible to all. The challenge will be to build Twitter Operated (IoT) Vending Machines for the CSforALL Summit being held at WSU October 8-11. \nJoin us on Sunday\, September 9th for the challenge kick-off where you will learn all about the Twitter vending machine challenge\, its requirements and prizes. \nAll 5 workshops for this challenge are on Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will be held on the 3rd floor of the David Adamany Undergraduate Library (UGL) in the Community Room. \nChallenge Schedule:\n\nSeptember 9: Team building (5-7 individuals per team); Preliminary design – design thinking; Material round up (Raspberry Pi’s\, Arduinos\, Plywood\, Lexan\, Hardware\, Bread boards\, Wires\, Electronic accessories)\nSeptember 16: Coding begins; Design work; Building begins; Requests for minor parts fabrication made to machine shops and/or maker spaces\nSeptember 23: Coding continues; Design work continues; Building continues\nSeptember 30: Finish building; Testing begins\nOctober 7: Finishing touches and prep for transport to WSU Community Arts Auditorium for the\n\nCSForALL Summit! \nPlease RSVP if you want to join the challenge. \nThis challenge is open to all experience levels\, especially youth.
